Tell us about your journey as a coach.
Twenty years ago, I began my spiritual healing journey. At the time, it felt like I was trapped in the most sensitive body. I could feel everything and had no awareness of what was mine, so I took on all the emotions of everyone and everything around me. I was depressed, anxious, suicidal, bulimic, and 60 pounds heavier.
Then I found life coaching. It was as if someone or something has given me the code to my SOUL, and whispered in the equation that unlocked my true mission.
I went back to school, got my undergrad in psychology and my Master’s in Transpersonal Psychology, got certified as a holistic life coach, and started my own coaching business in 2008.
This is how I got my first client. I was out to lunch with a friend, and she started sharing so much about her life. Her perspective seemed to be so focused on self-rejection and self-hatred. As she told me more, I thought, “I can help her.” I offered her 6 sessions.
For the next couple of years, I worked consistently with about 20 clients at a time. They would come to me with a problem on our free call, and I would assess the problem and make sure I knew I could help them. Years later, I could walk someone from wounded to freedom in just one session.
Little by little, I built my dream career, and now I teach others how to do this work. My spiritual life coaching certification fills up with students from all over the world, we consistently sell our transformative programs and offerings, and we have a team dedicated to Awaken’s mission.
What advice might you give to a new coach trying to get their first clients? Any advice to ignore?
I am going to say something many coaches will probably not value testimonials over a big paycheck at first.
If you just check in with your higher self and create a fee that is reasonable to where you are now, this opens the door for you to work with people now, you gain something very important—experience and testimonials.
The biggest reason I see coaches fail is because they have listened to some “marketing guru” who encouraged them to charge a fee that is not in alignment with their authentic offering…then what happens? They can’t sell their services, and some eventually “fail”.
If we just get more down to Earth and bring our heart back to the real reason why we are doing this work and charge a fee that is in alignment with where we are now, then we can begin to actually build a business that thrives.
And this is coming from someone who started this business in a recession in 2007.
What books have significantly impacted your life? What are your main takeaways from them?
You Can Heal Your Life by the American motivational speaker Louise L. Hay.
When I first read this a couple of decades ago, I had such a huge epiphany on the fact that you can, in fact, heal anything, and I mean anything.
This is the book I always recommend to people who are new to the Spiritual Awakening path.
If you could put a message on a huge billboard—getting a message out to millions—what would it say and why?
“I believe you are whole and can experience your life feeling this fullness.”
You have an extraordinary talent that you came here to share, and there is not one other person on this planet who can fulfill that mission.
