The 5 Main Money Mindset Blocks for Coaches and Their Antidotes

Last updated on July 8, 2023

We all live with limiting beliefs, and most of us have had limiting beliefs around money and our ability to experience abundance.

The five main categories of money mindset blocks based on my research are scarcity, avoidance, worthiness, money fears, and martyrdom. The easiest way to determine your biggest money mindset block is to take the quiz I developed. We’ll also take a look at each of them in this article to help you identify which limiting belief is holding you back.

Money Mindset Block 1: Scarcity

Do you resonate with any of the following statements?

  • There’s not enough
  • I don’t have enough time
  • I don’t have the resources
  • I need to spend less to have more
  • Money is hard to get
  • Money doesn’t grow on trees
  • If I have more, someone else has less

These are all beliefs that stem from a scarcity vs. abundance #WealthWound.

When you hold the belief that money and abundance are limited resources, it restricts your ability to believe in having more.

You might feel like you have to make money before you can generate MORE money, or that you don’t have enough time. Maybe juggling a demanding job and kids makes you believe that you will never have overflow.

An outlook of scarcity versus abundance generates emotions of scarcity, insecurity, and competition, regardless of your level of success. Those who adhere to this limiting belief perceive money and resources as finite.

They associate the idea of “more for me” with “less for you” (and vice versa). Consequently, this mindset fosters a sense of competition with others, resulting in stress, anxiety, and even desperation when attempting to attract more abundance.

The Antidote: Abundance

Imagine the possibilities that would unfold in your life and business if you embraced the notion of boundless money and resources.

Adopting an abundance mindset not only alters your perspective of the world, but it has the power to profoundly transform your entire life.

Money Mindset Block 2: Avoidance

Do you resonate with any of the following?

  • Spending without consideration
  • Avoiding looking at money
  • Dismissing income
  • Working rather than enjoying life
  • Often spending all your money
  • Enjoying life to the detriment of valuing money

These are all beliefs that stem from a money Avoidance #WealthWound.

An outlook of scarcity versus abundance generates emotions of scarcity, insecurity, and competition, regardless of your level of success.

An avoidance mindset when it comes to money involves ignoring your income or expenses in order to avoid discomfort. The discomfort might be stress around income, a lack of understanding or clarity around your finances, or wanting to spend more than you have.

Subconsciously, avoidance is a form of mental programming where we believe that money causes suffering.

The Antidote: Receptiveness

Expressing gratitude holds remarkable healing power, and there is a wealth of data and research supporting this fact, particularly concerning our relationship with money.

To overcome avoidance, the key lies in embracing receptiveness—developing the ability to receive with ease and cultivating gratitude for what we already possess.

Money often triggers deep-seated insecurities, fears, stress, and feelings of powerlessness. Overcoming avoidance becomes challenging when our nervous system becomes dysregulated at the mere thought of money. However, by fostering receptiveness, we can begin to shift our perspective. Learning to appreciate and accept what already exists allows us to acknowledge the abundance present in all aspects of life, including our financial well-being, rather than fixating on scarcity.

By expressing gratitude for what we presently have, we create an opening for new possibilities and opportunities to manifest.

Money Mindset Block 3: Worthiness

Do you resonate with any of the following?

  • I don’t deserve wealth
  • I’m not good enough or smart enough
  • I don’t follow through
  • Money only comes from doing things I hate

These are all beliefs that stem from an Unworthiness #WealthWound.

Individuals who carry an inner sense of unworthiness grapple with feelings of inadequacy and insecurity when it comes to attaining greater wealth and experiencing abundance. This belief system gives rise to subconscious thoughts that heavily influence their decision-making process, leading them to make choices that hinder their own journey toward abundance.

This becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy: due to their lack of worthiness, these individuals unwittingly repel opportunities for financial prosperity.

The Antidote: Worthiness

Embracing a sense of worthiness plays a vital role in manifesting your desires by dispelling feelings of unworthiness, which often give rise to a sense of insignificance or a perceived lack of importance.

The undeniable truth is that you are significant, and your presence in this world holds purpose.

Money Mindset Block 4: Money Fears

Do you resonate with any of the following?

  • I fear failure
  • No matter how much I make, I value work above everything
  • The other shoe will drop
  • Some day I could still lose it all
  • I avoid looking at my money
  • More money, more problems
  • I keep it all

These are all beliefs that stem from a Fear #WealthWound.

When fear surrounds your relationship with money, it engenders apprehension specifically tied to financial matters. This fear often manifests as the concern that money will vanish, a perpetual sense of inadequacy, or a lack of control over your financial situation.

This fear can be paralyzing, preventing you from taking necessary actions and making empowering decisions regarding your finances. It creates a constant state of worry and limits your ability to fully embrace the potential abundance that awaits you. The fear of scarcity and insufficiency keeps you trapped in a mindset of lack, hindering your ability to attract and create financial stability and prosperity.

The Antidote: Courage

To overcome fear surrounding money, it is essential to cultivate courage and trust.

Courage serves as a catalyst for manifestation by replacing fear with a deep sense of trust and positive expectation. When embarking on our journey to achieve goals, we often rely on action, and while it yields results, we often overlook the importance of embracing receptivity.

When fear surrounds your relationship with money, it engenders apprehension specifically tied to financial matters.

Learning the art of leaning back and receiving requires courage, as it entails placing trust in the unfolding of life without knowing every outcome in advance. It involves making decisions based on our authentic desires, regardless of potential outcomes, while maintaining an unwavering belief that the best outcome is on its way.

Money Mindset Block 5: Martyrdom

Do you resonate with any of the following?

  • Being poor is noble
  • I can’t be spiritual and rich
  • I’m a better person if I have less money
  • Rich people are bad
  • Money is bad
  • Rich people did bad things to get rich
  • Having money will change my identity

These are all beliefs that stem from a Martyrdom #WealthWound.

One of the most challenging aspects of consistently prioritizing others over oneself is that it ultimately does not serve those in need or those requiring additional resources. It is important to recognize that you cannot impoverish yourself to lift everyone out of poverty or rescue those in difficult circumstances. The undeniable truth is that possessing greater resources provides not only more opportunities for yourself but also enables you to extend a helping hand to others.

The Antidote: Empowerment

Empowerment holds the key to liberating oneself from the grip of the martyr mindset.

Empowerment teaches us to recognize that we have the ability to choose our mindset and approach. It reminds us that we can navigate challenges with resilience and determination while also honoring our well-being and joy.

Rather than resigning ourselves to a mindset of struggle, empowerment encourages us to seek growth, success, and fulfillment with a sense of agency and positivity.

Taking Action

How would your life change if you fully adopted an abundance mindset? In other words, how would you live life if you believed you could truly have what you want?

And secondly, if you knew you wouldn’t fail, how would your actions in your business change?
