Tell us about your journey as a coach.
Ever since I was 18, I knew deep down I was meant to do this work. Although like most people, instead of following my heart I took on a *shadow career* in Real Estate which from the young age of 22 I was very successful in.
I had reached a point where I was checking all of “society’s boxes,” had a beautiful home, a 4 -year relationship, and a successful career (making well over 6 figures). Yet even though things on the outside looked good, I wasn’t happy. What I didn’t realize at the time is that I lacked a deeper purpose for everything I was doing.
I eventually got to the point where I couldn’t keep going, and at 28 decided there must be more for me out there—and I wanted to find it. So I booked a one-way solo ticket to Thailand with no plan.
Long story short, that first trip led to a worldwide adventure traveling to over 65 countries, where I not only learned about myself but became deeply passionate about personal development. After years of living this incredible lifestyle for myself, I had so many others ask *how* I was able to do it. I wanted to share everything I was learning with them, so I launched Hello BeYouTiful, a women’s empowerment podcast, which then led to me stepping into launching my 1:1 coaching program, Soul Surgery.
From Soul Surgery, I then created my first 4-week accountability group (The GlowUP) which I describe as a defibrillator for your Soul. After that I had clients wanting to go deeper, so I created The Vibrancy Method, my signature 3-month group program. All of this has grown organically and in a very spacious and aligned way. Many of my clients have come via referrals, and most of them have completed all of my programs (some multiple times). This body of work is completely transformational, especially for the woman who knows she is ready to be fully activated and OWN her power!
We want to destigmatize talking about money, including how much coaches make. Would you please share with our readers any relevant revenue figures from your business?
My first year coaching, my net profit was only $3500! I literally WALKED AWAY from a business I had built (Real Estate) that was making approximately $170,000/year only working five months a year so that I could pursue a path of purpose and build a legacy that was in alignment with my Soul. Let’s just say that first year #humbled me 🙂
In my second year, I was just shy of six figures with lots of space for creativity and honoring my path in life. That year I also went through a major transition of leaving a relationship that I KNEW deep down wasn’t “it,” moved to a brand new city where I basically knew *no one,* and felt the pressure of the pandemic deeply through my being. (As a highly self-aware empath E V E R Y T H I N G is felt, and that’s especially why the work that I do/practice is so important. I’m deeply embodied in it, which allows me to hold so beautifully for all of my clients.)
In my third year, I was well over six figures and found EVEN MORE space within my life. I’m at a point where things feel very fluid & flowy; the pieces of my business that I’ve created are integrating and upleveling. What I love about this entrepreneurial journey is that as long as you honor your path and create an embodied/aligned work, your world will expand in beautiful ways and you will no longer feel stuck in the time-for-money limited exchange. You literally cannot put a price on your freedom.
What courses, programs, or certifications have you done? Would you recommend them, and for whom?
- I’m a graduate of the Institute of Coaching Mastery Program, a year-long certification
- I have a YTT200 Yoga Teacher Training Certification
- I have a Reiki Certification
- I’ve done Dr. Joe Dispenza‘s Advance week-long trainings multiple times
- I’ve done multiple Vipassana (10-day silent meditations)
I am a HUGE believer in experiential learning! By this point, I’ve traveled to over 70 countries, am a regular attendee at Burning Man, done multiple UPW’s (Unleash the Power Within) with Tony Robbins, hosted a retreat in Morocco (in Marrakech & the Sahara desert), partnered with Mindvalley, been to Robin Sharma’s Personal Mastery Academy, Gabby Bernstein events, Brian Weiss events, multiple Afest’s with Mindvalley (in Bali, Portugal, and most recently Jordan) & SO much more…
I am CONSTANTLY investing in myself and genuinely believe in saying YES to the programs/courses/certifications/experiences that call on your heart. ALL (every single dollar and minute spent) have been worth it, and I will continue to walk the talk and live this way because I know firsthand just how transformational living this way can be.
What advice or perspective might you give to a new coach trying to get their first clients? Any advice they should ignore?
Here are 3 tips:
- BE a client first. Find an aligned coach/mentor and invest in support. The experience you will gain from being led, guided, and supported will be a complete game changer, plus it will give you the experience of knowing how it feels as you open yourself to receive clients.
That said, be mindful of *who* you choose to walk with you. Even if it doesn’t fully make sense, listen to your heart more than your head. There is A LOT of great branding/marketing out there, but you want to make sure that you are working with coaches and mentors who truly embody the qualities that you aspire to access within yourself.
- Clients really are E V E R Y W H E R E. You just have to have a clear understanding of your services and know how to communicate the value of what you offer from an empowered place.
- You are TOTALLY WORTHY of pursuing this path, and if there is a part of your heart that is calling for you to do this, honor that. There are people out there who are waiting and praying to find you, so as you step into this chapter, stay connected to that.
As for advice to ignore: when just starting out, I would suggest not getting too swayed in all of the online things, unless you already have a solid social media presence. Websites/funnels/email marketing—that will all come with time, but the best place to start, in my opinion, is in your organic offline market. Find ways to be creative there and focus on supporting your clients in achieving AMAZING results. Word of mouth and referrals can completely catapult your biz!
What are your thoughts on “choosing a niche” as a coach?
Ahhhh “Niche drama” — it’s one of the biggest frustrations/setbacks, especially for so many coaches starting out. So if you’re feeling it—totally normal 🙂
What I would say is this: tap into your heart and feel into the energy of the person you want to serve, and find out in what areas of life you want to support them in transforming. Is it in their Health? Is it with their Finances? Is it in Relationships? Really hone in on what area lights you up the most and focus on that.
Most of the time these clues can be found in the personal journey you’ve walked. You want to be clear about the transformation you’ll provide, the container of what that program looks like, and it’s a great idea to lay out the tools you will incorporate to help them get from A (where they are now) to B (RESULTS).
Your “niche” will evolve over time as you grow, and even though it may feel tough, don’t let the *but I can help everyone* story lead. Yes, maybe you can help everyone, but who would you LOVE to help now? Who are you inspired to GUIDE at this point of your journey (knowing that your journey will change)?
If you’re building your business offline, “niching down” isn’t as important, but if it’s online, you’re going to want to know *who* it is you’re speaking to.
What books have significantly influenced your life? What are your key takeaways from these books?
So many! SO, SO MANY! I am an avid reader, and a few years back when I was in my personal development/growth/trying to find my purpose stage, I was reading a book a week!
Some of my favorites:
- Think & Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill – This completely changed my money mindset. I read it at 22 and HIGHLY recommend it.
- The Alchemist by Paulo Coehlo – emphasizes the importance of connecting with The Universe and being guided by the omens in life
- Conversations with God by Neale Donald Walsch – another great book that helps you surrender to the support that’s available and be guided by life’s synchronicities
If you received an extra $10,000 to spend on your business, how would you spend it and why?
Invest in a Coach!!! 1000% hands down. I would put every cent towards being supported by someone with whom I felt aligned and who could hold the capacity to help me grow both personally and in my business.
Starting your own business is amazing. It’s like getting a Ph.D. in the inner-work because as you develop the courage to (finally) step into your greatness (chances are you’ve been secretly daydreaming about this for a while), your ‘InnerMeanGirl’ is going to bring all of your fears of unworthiness to the surface. And in my opinion—WHAT A GIFT. If you are supported in lovingly releasing and replacing these limiting stories with a more empowered narrative, your life will forever be changed. An investment in yourself is truly one that will keep on giving.
What are some of your favorite affirmations, mantras, thoughts, and/or journal prompts currently? Why?
Every day as I’m about to sit down to work, I light a special candle that I gifted to myself from my higher self with the Mantra: “I am a Wealthy Woman.”
I then close my eyes and let this feeling of total worthiness completely wash over my entire body. I stay here, breathing into this feeling of expansion and absolute bliss as I envision the clients I’m connecting with and the lives I am supporting in changing.
It’s similar to a ritual I used to do in sports before any of my games as I would get into the zone. As I would do it, there would be a moment where I would feel my energy connect, and in that instant, I knew: Game Time.
Transformation is SO MUCH MORE POTENT when working from the energetic field first. Just remember that.
When you feel overwhelmed, stressed, or have lost your focus or motivation, what do you do?
I’m a huge fan of relying on certain tools and practices for maintaining your baseline, and personally, I love being able to pick and choose which ones feel supportive for me in the moment.
That said, on days when I’m feeling bad or off, instead of trying to work my way out of it, I allow myself to sink into whatever it is that’s coming up for me and just be. It is completely human and a part of the process to have those days, and oftentimes there are real gifts in the slow-downs. Know that those heavier feelings are impermanent and will move, so find ways to be comfortable as they pass. Then on days when your energy shifts, and you’re feeling motivated, strike when the iron is hot! Get more done then. It will balance itself out, and the trick is to learn how to give yourself grace throughout the process.
Do you have any examples of how a “failure” set you up for later success?
SO MANY. I’ve had so many perceived “failures” that have been the biggest gifts in retrospect–one of them being leaving my $170,000+ career where I “had it all” (time, money, AND freedom). At that point I was only working five months of the year, traveling around the world for seven, and in the eyes of anyone on the outside, I was”super successful.”
Yet I lacked purpose. I was no longer motivated. I KNEW deep down I was meant for more, and eventually, I couldn’t put a price on that feeling. So I walked away.
The following year, after expenses I cleared just $3500 and was working LIKE A DOG. So many late-night grinds, not having a clue what I was doing, but I knew deep down I was meant to be doing it. At that time did I feel like a failure? Yup… but in a way, I also felt so free.
I had committed to the entrepreneurial journey. I had committed to creating a life of financial freedom and location independence. I had committed to sharing what I had learned and helping whomever I could in creating their path to freedom too. And guess what? It paid off.
When we were in the 2020 pandemic lockdown, because I had launched my business the year before, I was able to move to the island of Grenada (in the Caribbean) because I had my business. In March 2021 when I went through my devastating breakup, I was able to move to a brand new city in a neighborhood that inspired me (Old Port, Montreal) because I had my business. In May 2022, I could book a last-minute trip to Jordan the day before for an event I had wanted to go to without having to ask for time off from my boss because I had my business.
So sure, in 2019 when I first left my stable and secure career and only made 2% of my previous year’s income, did I feel like a failure? Absolutely. But had I not had the courage to say yes to myself and my dreams then, I would’ve never had the freedom that I’ve felt since. And in all honesty, you cannot put a price tag on that. So basically, whatever it is that you’re going through now, whatever obstacles you may be facing: TRUST THE PROCESS 🙂
Do you have any embarrassing (at the time) stories from your work as a coach? Or a time when putting yourself out there really paid off?
The first thing that comes to mind is just HOW MANY DAYS & HOURS I spent preparing for absolutely anything/everything in the beginning. I remember I was asked to guide a journaling session for one of my friends’ virtual events, and I literally wrote the script word for word of what I was going to say.
Looking back now, it’s cute how much anxiety and preparation that version of me needed in order to put myself out there. Now on most live calls, I don’t even fully prepare besides connecting to the energy, following my intuition, and sinking into the support that’s (always) available. My main intention for everything I do now is to get out of my mind, sink into my heart, and show up in service.
Never forget: Your presence has so much power.
If you could put a message on a huge billboard—getting a message out to millions—what would it say and why?
“Listen to the Whispers of Your Heart!”
HEART>HEAD every time! And there is a powerful way to honor both. The problem is that most people’s energy is tied up in their heads, and they’re not even creating the space to honor what their Hearts are saying.
That’s why when you first start this work, your heart’s “voice” may initially sound like a whisper, but the beautiful thing is that the more that you honor it, the louder and louder that voice will get.
And the Heart really is a portal to all of your deeper desires. Everything you “think” you want exists there, and through my work, I’m committed to helping others realize this.
Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Life is SO short and time is SO valuable. You are worthy of creating the life of your dreams, so please honor that little voice within you and just GO FOR THEM.
