Want to reduce stress, increase focus, and improve your overall well-being? Research has shown that a regular meditation practice can provide these and other benefits.

But while you may already be aware of the benefits of meditation, creating a new daily habit can sometimes be a struggle.

Fortunately, there are lots of apps and services available to help you create and maintain a daily meditation habit. One of the most popular of these services is Headspace. In this article, we outline 3 simple steps to creating a daily meditation habit with Headspace.

Step 1 – Get Headspace

In order to access Headspace, you’ll need to create an account. Once you have an account, you can download the app from the App store or Google Play to use Headspace on your phone.

If you scroll down a bit on the Headspace homepage, you’ll find a few introductory recordings. You can listen to these in order to get a sense of the type of meditations offered and what you can expect.

Step 2 – Pick a Time to Meditate Every Day

Once you have access to the Headspace meditations, choose a time you can meditate for 10 – 20 minutes every day.

The best way to make your new habit stick is to be consistent with the time you sit down to meditate. As much as possible, choose a time of day that you can commit to every day.

You might choose to set a reminder alarm on your phone, or do some habit stacking by adding meditation to a habit you already have, like brushing your teeth or going to the gym.

If you miss a day, don’t let all-or-nothing thinking get to you. Start right back up where you left off.

Step 3 – Meditate ☺️

Now that you have access to the Headspace meditations and you’ve picked a time of day, it’s time to sit down, get comfortable, and meditate.

Headspace starts you out with 10 meditations, so your first 10 days are already outlined for you, and it’s easy to get started.

Conventional wisdom says that it takes 21 days for a repeated action to become a habit. But you can begin to reap the benefits of your daily meditation habit immediately.

If you’re new to meditating, it may take some time before you get used to the practice. But with time and consistent practice, you’ll begin to feel the benefits of mindfulness and meditation in your life.
