Tell us about your journey as a coach.

Self-ish Lifestyle is my second business. I owned and operated a salon in New Jersey for over 15 years before I transitioned into the coaching industry. My 20-year-plus experience as a cosmetologist and entrepreneur, as well as my immigrant upbringing (I’m from the Philippines), gifted me the confidence, security, and foundation that I now use as a coach.

When I established Self-ish Lifestyle in 2016, I recognized that I needed to not only serve the spiritual aspects of my clients but also share practical techniques that would serve the mental and emotional bodies so that one may be in their best and highest good and never be dependent on my services. This allowed me to integrate life coaching, hypnosis, and Qi healing into my sessions.

I became certified as a Neuro-Linguistic Life Coach trained in the Satir Method of Therapy to heal individual, group, and family dynamics. My clientele grew, and, I am blessed to say, most of them were gained through referrals (which I believe is the best form of marketing).

The culmination of this entire experience is detailed in my book—Indestructible: The Hidden Gifts of Trauma. I share not only my experiences growing up in the Philippines and migrating to the US as a young woman, as well as having to endure and overcome multiple traumas, but also the discovery of gifts I used then and now to thrive in this life.

The silver lining of the past two years when the world had to shift and adapt due to the pandemic is that my sessions are mostly online now rather than in person, and, I’m happy to say, my clients are highly satisfied, as well as am I.

We want to destigmatize talking about money, including how much coaches make. Would you please share with our readers any relevant revenue figures from your business?

When I first started, my sessions were only $75-$85 per hour. After continued education and certifications, my rates are now $125-$150 per hour.

What courses, programs, or certifications have you done? Would you recommend them, and for whom?

I am certified in Qi Healing, NLP Coaching and Hypnosis, Satir Transformational Systemic Therapy, Spiritual Mediumship, and Yoga.

What advice or perspective might you give to a new coach trying to get their first clients? Any advice they should ignore?

The entrepreneurial journey requires resilience. Resilience is a superpower that may be misconstrued as tolerance. The difference is the practice of resilience results in self-accountability and responsibility while tolerance perpetuates the victimhood mindset. The hard part is implementing the one that honors your circumstance. You will have to be your own champion, cheerleader, and disciplinarian.

What are your thoughts on “choosing a niche” as a coach?

Be genuine and authentic. Trust the process of your journey. Your practice is yours and no one else’s. Comparison will kill creativity, but inspiration will lead to growth.

What books have significantly influenced your life?

…and many more.

If you received an extra $10,000 to spend on your business, how would you spend it and why?

I would spend it on continuing education and marketing because that is key to keeping the fire of inspiration lit and growing.

What are some of your favorite affirmations, mantras, thoughts, and/or journal prompts currently? Why?

I am no one, therefore I am everyone.

I am nowhere, therefore I am everywhere.

I am not bound by time nor space, so I am limitless to pursue my desires.

This I affirm, and so it is blessed be, amen.

This mantra allows me to connect and activate my four bodies into soul alignment: mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual together equal the soul.

When you feel overwhelmed, stressed, or have lost your focus or motivation, what do you do?

My number one practice to down-regulate is the 3, 6, 9 breath: three breaths to your belly, six at the heart, and nine at the third eye which then leads me to go into meditation to activate and align my chakras. Once I am able to clear away some of the stress, the ability to activate the prefrontal cortex returns and I can process the how, what, and when to proceed.

If you could put a message on a huge billboard—getting a message out to millions—what would it say and why?

“Your perspective becomes your reality.”

The power is within you. To execute a shift, it all begins with your response to the situation. You cannot control the outside world, but you can control your inner world.

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

You are a spiritual being having a human experience and equipped with everything you need to survive and overcome. Practice accountability, responsibility, and awareness to live a fulfilling and SELF-ish Lifestyle.
