Tell us about your journey as a coach.

I have always been a deeply curious person, so much so that as a young girl walking home from school, I often stopped and chatted with my neighbors and was in the know of who was doing what and what neighbors were getting divorced, and so on. As I grew older, my curiosity moved into the body and how it held onto our desires and traumas.

As someone who experienced a great deal of trauma in her life and began healing herself by becoming a yoga therapist and pilates movement teacher, I was teaching people how returning home to their bodies could create safety, and I wanted a more profound way to affect change in them but lacked the tools.

I started training in 2016 to be a coach and went straight into leadership training; my first clients were initially from my yoga practice and often pro bono. I had a client write a book after our first six months together, and people started creating their lives in beautiful ways which gave me belief in myself. Still, it was not easy to sell my coaching skills; it felt like I was selling an invisible product.

My business has changed in ways that I could never imagine. I quit teaching so many classes and began incorporating movement into sessions. My theory is that animals do not hold onto their fear, and they release it by shaking it off, so I began coaching my clients for an hour and then leading them through 30 minutes of movement to integrate our work. My clients started feeling more connected, grounded, and eager to step into their future.

I decided to work with my clients for 1 year as opposed to 6 months, and to work 3 days a week keeping my clients’ highest good in mind—if I am more available to myself then I can be fully available to them.

I am re-designing and re-creating all the time. It happens inside of me AND it is happening in my business now. My deepest desire is for people to feel themselves at the deepest levels and to connect with others in the same way. Full integration of all of me into my community feels like my next iteration.

We want to destigmatize talking about money, including how much coaches make. Would you please share with our readers any relevant revenue figures from your business?

My first year I made maybe $15,000. Initially, I had a hard time valuing what my worth was, but year after year it became obvious I could make more money. I am a big believer in multiple streams of revenue, and I am creating that through different ways I am connecting in relationships. I was aiming for $150,000 this year and will be on point.

What courses, programs, or certifications have you done? Would you recommend them, and for whom?

What advice or perspective might you give to a new coach trying to get their first clients? Any advice they should ignore?

Trust what you already know. Your experience thus far of the life you have lived coupled with coaches’ training is enough for you to change a person’s life.

What are your thoughts on “choosing a niche” as a coach?

It took me a long time to clarify my niche. I thought I solely wanted to be a business coach, and what I realized was that the things that hold us back are the residue of our past. Practice as many ways of coaching clients as you can to find who you want to impact. Our gifts are in our wounds.

What books have significantly influenced your life? What are your key takeaways from these books?

If you received an extra $10,000 to spend on your business, how would you spend it and why?

I would spend an extra $10,000 on branding and would partner with my marketing assistant to create more ways to empower women.

What are some of your favorite affirmations?

I am safe in my body. It is safe to feel. More will be revealed.

When you feel overwhelmed, stressed, or have lost your focus or motivation, what do you do?

I find myself in the woods, I move my body, I experience the feelings, and I breathe.

Do you have any examples of how a “failure” set you up for later success?

I was hired to be a full-time coach with a fitness studio linked to a corporation. I was relying on the income from that, and when it fell apart, it forced me to look deeper into who I wanted to work with and how I wanted to work with them. It forced me to ask more profound questions and do deeper diligence when working with a corporation.

If you could put a message on a huge billboard—getting a message out to millions—what would it say and why?

“Humans:

Self-Love is a revolutionary act. It is an act of courage, an act of bravery. It is a form of rebellion against our inner child’s beliefs (that our parents gave us), and it requires us to choose interdependence and self-expression over our inner child’s dependence and desire to be gently controlled, which can have us spend our lives in fear and choosing to “control” or “deny” our feelings and hide any vulnerability.”

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

Spend your time and money learning more about yourself. It is the best investment.
