Tell us about your journey as a coach.
As a child, I was always very intrigued by the human psyche. I was always so in tune with people’s emotions and I was very empathic and sensitive. I knew I wanted to do more than work a regular 9-5 job; I wanted to help others and make an impact in the world. I wanted to help lessen other people’s suffering, that was my ultimate goal.
At age 21, I hit my rock bottom. I was going through a deep depression, trying to figure out what my purpose in life was. I was working meaningless jobs in retail, fashion, fitness, you name it. Nothing felt fulfilling. Nothing felt meaningful to me. I knew there was something missing and I was on a mission to figure out what my soul needed.
During that time, I was also going through a really hard time in my romantic relationship. I knew I wasn’t happy but I was afraid of making the necessary changes to step into my power. That same year, I experienced a whole lot of trauma with my partner and that made the relationship even harder to be in. Shortly after, the relationship ended, and it was one of the hardest things I’ve had to experience.
That was my catalyst to step into my purpose. I knew that I specifically wanted to help men and women have healthy relationships because lets face it, we aren’t taught this valuable stuff in school. So I wanted to help with that, but I realized that in order to truly make an impact, I have to fully embody what I teach. I have to lead with integrity. So I began doing the shadow work, I began putting myself first, I began rediscovering who I am and coming back to myself. After giving myself the time to heal, I attracted my current partner into my life.
This work felt purposeful and so natural, I knew this is exactly what I was meant to do. I’ve learned so much about myself through my clients and through this work, and I am committed to diving deeper and loving myself more everyday.
What are some coach certification programs you’ve done? Would you recommend them?
I have 2 certifications and currently doing a 3rd one! The certifications I did were both online. The first one I did was with Amanda Marit, an incredible life coach with so much wisdom and knowledge. She has her own certification program and I met so many amazing humans in that program.
The second one I did was with the Gottman Institute which was specifically geared towards relationships. I loved them both and would 100% recommend them!
What are some of your favorite mantras or thoughts?
Some of my favorite and most empowering mantras are:
- I am attracting all the love and abundance I dream of and deserve
- I am grateful for all that is unfolding in my life and all that is yet to come
- I will have a good day because it’s my choice.
These are a few that I repeat daily to myself and it really helps me stay focused and grounded.
What are your thoughts on “choosing a niche” as a coach?
This is one of the hardest things for me to do!!! I feel like I have so much to share about so many different topics so it can be hard for me to stick to a specific niche. I specialize in relationships but I love talking about money, purpose, spirituality and so much more. I still make sure I teach those things in one way or another and I will creating specific courses online for different topics that out of my niche so I can still be of service to people other than my ideal client.
Do you have any embarrassing (at the time) stories from your work as a coach? Or a time when putting yourself out there really paid off?
One thing that made me really uncomfortable when I first started coaching was being on video. I felt so weird putting myself out there on Instagram stories and IG live because the story I held onto for so long was “I’m not good in front of the camera” or “Video isn’t my thing”.
But I’ve realized that I feel so powerful when I push past that fear and past my comfort zone, and I also notice that people connect so much more with me and relate to me when I decide to show my vulnerability on video.
What books have most influenced your life and why?
I’m a big bookworm so this is a tough question!! The Secret by Rhonda Byrnes is a book that I’ve gifted to others and it’s a book that has changed my outlook on life. It was the first book I read when I started learning more about manifestation and the idea of creating your own reality. It helped me understand that I am in power and I am in charge of my own life. I also love the book Attached by Amir Levine and it’s all about attachment styles which blew my mind when I first started learning about them. It helped me understand myself SO much more as a romantic partner and helped me have more compassion for my partner too.
What recent purchase of $100 or less has most positively impacted your life?
I LOVE investing in my personal growth. Buying courses from other coaches is something I really enjoy doing because I love learning and being inspired by others in my field. I think it’s so important to expand your knowledge and push yourself to learn something new everyday. I recently purchased a relationship course from Rising Woman called Becoming The One and it was amazing. It really helped me learn more about my relationship history and who I am as a person.
What advice would you give to a new life coach?
One of the best pieces of advice I can give is to continue leading with integrity. People won’t take you seriously until you take yourself seriously. It all begins with you and you have to embody what you teach in order to attract the clients that you’re looking for or the amount of money that you want.
If you had an extra $10,000 to spend on your business, how would you spend it and why?
I would invest in my own personal development. I would go on spiritual retreats, take courses, do different certifications, and hire mentors. I can’t give to others until I give to myself because you can’t pour from an empty cup!
When you feel overwhelmed or unfocused or have lost your focus temporarily, what do you do?
Meditation, journaling and being out in nature helps me come back to myself and it helps me get back into my creative flow. I have moments where I lose motivation and my creativity feels stagnant but I love asking myself, “Yasmin, what is your why? Why are you doing what you’re doing? How can I show up for others more? How can I provide value to others?”
How has a failure, or apparent failure, set you up for later success? Do you have a “favorite failure” of yours?
Failure is my biggest teacher. I am grateful for the failures I’ve encountered and honestly, one of my favorite failures is my previous relationship. It taught me what I needed to know about myself and it taught me to have compassion for others. It also led me on the path to true success and fulfillment because I found my purpose.
In the last five years, what new belief, behavior, or habit has most improved your life?
Meditation. It has been the greatest habit I’ve ever developed. It helps me stay grounded and I notice a massive change in my thoughts. It also really helps me manage my emotions in a healthier way and allows me the opportunity to observe without judging. Another habit that has changed my life is gratitude journaling. Every night, I write down 3 things I’m most grateful for. This really helps me be more optimistic especially in difficult moments.
If you could have a huge billboard anywhere with anything on it — metaphorically speaking, getting a message out to millions or billions — what would it say and why?
“We did not come here to be programmed and placed in a cage. We came here to become powerful co-creators and leaders”.
This is one of my own quotes and this is a message I would love to spread with the world because my own life changed when I realized that I create my own reality and I’m in power of my own life. No one else gets to call the shots, only I do. And we all have that same ability to be the leaders of our own lives. I think that’s really powerful and really grounding at the same time.
